20 River Terrace, also known as The Solaire is the first building designed to meet the new environmental guidelines instituted by the Battery Park City Authority in 2000. The Solaire building was chosen as a “Top Ten Green Award” by the American Institute of Architects in 2004. This 27-story building was designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates and consists of 282 units. 20 River Terrace was designed to consume 35% less energy than other residential high rise buildings, the heating and air-conditioning system is fueled by natural gas and fresh air is filtered to all units. This building was constructed with 19% recycled materials and more than 93% of the waste from construction was recycled.
